I’m so sad! Christmas is over already, but I’m still enjoying the holidays – hope you all have had a lovely and relaxing time celebrating with your loved ones. For the first time ever Alfie and I decided to spend Christmas at home, just the two of us. We have been together for almost 9 years and have never done this, so it was such a lovely change. Here’s a ;look at what we got up to this Christmas.
Christmas Eve was just wonderful. I started the day some festive porridge topped with sweet mince pie filling and 2% Greek yoghurt, so yummy! This was great fuel for my Christmas Eve run in the countryside, it was perfect running weather. I didn’t go out for long as it was pretty windy, but it was so nice to be outdoors, especially with the beautiful view. When I got back I got my bake on and made my very popular Mince Pie Swirls, you can read the recipe here.
Smoked salmon is always a treat at Christmas time and I made a fabulously healthy salad with it on Christmas Eve with lots of greens, red pepper, olives, sundried tomatoes and hummus. I also spent some time painting my nails in a festive hot pink, getting ready for the big day. My favourite snackies have been this Christmassy trail mix that I made using pomegranate hearts, salted pretzels, dark chocolate chips and pistachios…really addictive!
In the evening we had a cheese board for dinner, love my cheese! We had this before heading out for a carol service in the next village, which was really beautiful. Afterwards we were supposed to go to the pub for drinks but we were really tired so came home instead.
Christmas morning, definitely my favourite morning of the whole year. We had toasted multigrain bagels loaded with cream cheese and smoke salmon for a traditional Christmas breakfast. I donned my best Christmas jumper too!
Our Christmas lunch was pretty epic with a Christmas spiced glazed ham (my own recipe) and all of the trimmings. The champagne was flowing all day long…it was a merry Christmas indeed! For dessert I had made a Caramel Apple and Pear Crumble with vanilla custard, yum!
After lunch it was gift time:
Here’s a selection of some of my gifts, I’m so spoilt. I received a hamper of Liz Earle goodies, scented candles, Ralph Lauren handbag and scarf set, a Vitamix, a new coat, statement necklace, a spa day with my lovely mum, chocolates, slippers and lingerie. My mum and her partner also bought me and Alfie a TV for our bedroom.
Boxing day was spent in my pajamas all day, under the duvet eating chocolate, Christmas lunch leftovers and watching movies, I also perused the online sales too and was so proud of how much restraint I showed yesterday and I’ve only spent £40 so far. We are popping out to the shops today to have a look around but I’m not aiming to come away with too much.
How was your Christmas? Was Santa kind to you this year?
What are your plans for the rest of the holidays?
