Sometimes a girl just needs some time to herself and on Friday last week that’s exactly what I did.
Fact. I do spend a lot of time on my own as I work from home, but I needed some time to indulge myself that wasn’t spent in the company of my huge computer screen. Literally, on Friday morning I made the spontaneous decision to take the morning off and head into town. Before that though I woke up with the dawn chorus and made my warm water and lemon drink before hearing to the gym for a quick and gentle workout. When I got home I got ready and made myself a yummy breakfast of nectarines, blackberries, 2% Greek yoghurt and one of my Salted Almond Butter Flapjacks crumbled on top.
I spent the early morning answering emails and reading blogs before heading into town and snacked on some California almonds on the journey in.
It was time for lunch when I arrived and I had quite a feast for one planned:
It’s very rare that we eat Chinese food out as it’s difficult to find ones that don’t use MSG products in their food, they really upset Alfie’s stomach so we tend to avoid them. This means that I never get to eat one of my favourite foods, dim sum! On Frida I made sure that I had some for lunch. I totally forgot how big the portions are and couldn’t quite finish all of this food, it tasted awesome though: steamed beef dumplings, roasted pork buns and spring onion cheung fun.
To be honest I didn’t go on a mad shopping trip and just picked up some makeup that I had run out of. I did end up buying some cute baby boy clothes in the sale though, I can’t resist spoiling the little one. I spotted this lovely vegan cafe and popped in for a nom-tastic chocolate brownie and because the sun was shining I got a coconut milkshake too. I saved these for when I got home. The brownie was very dense but not as fudge as I would have liked, still super tasty though.
I spent a couple of hours writing before finishing work for the weekend. For dinner I used the left overs of my taco black beans and used them in a salad with mixed leaves, grated cheese, salsa, jalapeños, avocado, tomatoes and cucumber. This is probably one of the best salads that I’ve had in a long time and it was so filling too, definitely have to make this again and perhaps blog the recipe for the taco black beans. Well that’s another WIAW post. It was so nice to treat myself to all of that delicious food and getting to visit the shops that I love. Sometimes time in your own company like this can do you the world of good, even if it’s just going for a walk or a swim. It may seem rather indulgent to some, but I really needed that lunch date and mini shopping trip for myself. Next time I might include a hair cut and a massage for good measure too. 🙂
Do you think ‘me’ days are good or indulgent and unnecessary? What are your favourite things to do when you have planned a ‘me’ day?
