I love a chai latte, the warm spices just suit this time of year perfectly and another favourite drink of mine is a traditional hot chocolate.  Normally, I’ve not usually a fan of flavoured hot chocolate as I find them too sweet for my taste buds, but after having tried one of the seasonal special hot chocolates in Starbuck’s a few weeks back I’m now a convert.

Whilst in the kitchen this weekend I got thinking about a post-diner Christmas desserts as Christmas pudding can be quite heavy.  I wanted something that wasn’t going to sit in my stomach until the next morning, but was indulgent enough to be the finale of an epic festive dinner.  I often drink hot chocolate in the evenings to get my sweet fix after dinner and decided to re-create one of my favourite drinks in dessert form.

A chocolate mousse seemed like a sensible option, simple to whip up at a time when the kitchen can be a stressful time to be right now.  After seeing this for a homemade chai spice mix, I knew that I had to use it to make this easy chocolate mousse recipe.

Chai Chocolate Mousse

An indulgent chocolate dessert that's actually healthy!
Author: Jemma Andrew-Adiamah
  • 1 large avocado
  • 2 tsp chai spice mix
  • 4 tbsps raw cacoa powder or unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 tbsps maple syrup
  1. In a food processor or blender, whizz up all of the ingredients until smooth and well combined. Transfer the mixture into bowls and chill for an hour in the fridge to set.
  2. Sprinkle with your favourite toppings and indulge in chocolate heaven.

Believe it or not, this feels seriously indulgent mainly due to the avocados natural creaminess. To make it even more decadent you could add some melted dark chocolate or dairy free chocolate, but it’s really gorgeous just as it is.

To make mine extra special and Christmassy I topped it with whipped cream (non-vegan) and added a candy cane for fun.  Of course you can add what ever toppings you like to suit your dietary requirements and tastes, but either way I know you are going to love it!

This is my last post before Christmas…only 2 more sleeps to go!  I want to wish you all a magical Christmas with your loved ones.  Eat lots, drink lots and have the best time ever!

What are you having for your Christmas lunch dessert?  Do you like add-in flavours in chocolate or do you like it plain?
