Blueberry Pie Smoothie, that’s super creamy and warm to help take the chill out of the cold mornings.   With the addition of porridge oats and lots of other delicious ingredients this breakfast smoothie is very satisfying as well as filling. 

On a cold damp morning, more often than not I will automatically head to the cupboard and pull out an essential ingredient that gets overused in my house in the colder months: porridge oats.  A warm comforting bowl of porridge seems like the perfect way to start the day when the weather isn’t up to much outside.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my smoothies and regular blog readers will know this, however, the fact that they can be freezing cold does put me off them a little in autumn and winter.

What I love about smoothies is the convenience and speed in which you can make them.  I often find myself killing two birds with one stone and drinking a nutrition packed smoothie while getting ready or checking my emails.  If you love your smoothies but are put off by cold breakfasts in autumn and winter then the ideal solution is to make them warm.

A Blueberry Pie Smoothie, that’s super creamy and warm to help take the chill out of the cold mornings

  • 100g fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 banana
  • 25 g porridge oats
  • 300 ml almond milk
  • 2 tbsp Greek yoghurt
  • 2 tsp chia seeds
  • 1-3 tsp honey or maple syrup (depending on your preferences)
  1. First mix the porridge oats and almond milk together and cook in the microwave for a few minutes until combined.

  2. In the meantime, pour all of the other ingredients into the blender and blitz together until smooth. When the porridge is ready, add it to the blender and blitz to incorporate into the smoothie.

  3. Pour into your favourite mug or glass and enjoy!

With this smoothie, you get the best of both worlds: a delicious rich blueberry packed smoothie and a dose of warm oats.  The porridge makes the smoothie silky smooth as well as the addition of the Greek yoghurt, which also helps to make this one very filling, so a great kick-start to the day.  I think this one is a lovely introduction to smoothies as it tastes like dessert and my little boy loves it!
