If you were to capture autumn in a glass, I’m sure this super filling Apple & Cinnamon Pie Smoothie would feature. Full of warm cinnamon spice, nutmeg and mixed spice it’s a fantastic start to any autumnal day.
Dessert to start the day is the breakfast of dreams for me. A traditional apple pie after a Sunday roast dinner was always my favourite part of the weekend, followed by a long nap afterwards. In fact, I think apple inspired desserts like a pie or crumble are my favourite treat in the autumn. They remind me of cosy, comforting and happy memories. Of course, they always have to be topped with a creamy vanilla custard.
In this smoothie recipe, I’ve tried to recreate an apple pie which for me is synonymous with autumn. Plus, apples are in season at the moment and taste their absolute best. I used ingredients that I would naturally have in the kitchen at this time of year: cinnamon, maple syrup, porridge oats are all autumn staples in my house.
Not only does the addition of the porridge oats make this smoothie filling, but the protein provided from the goat’s yogurt by makes it very satisfying for breakfast. I’m not a big user of protein powder anymore, so always fill my smoothies with alternative protein sources like dairy, nuts, nut butter and seeds. Goat’s yogurt works really in this instance and helps to give the smoothie a nutritional boost.
